About our wool
No. Our garments are made from fine merino wool (14–23 microns), which is soft enough to wear directly on the skin without the scratchy feeling of traditional wool.
Wool absorbs moisture vapor and moves it away from your skin, helping you stay dry and comfortable.
No. Wool naturally resists odor-causing bacteria, which helps garments stay fresh even after extended use.
Wool is a natural, renewable, and biodegradable fiber. We also ensure responsible sourcing and controlled processing throughout our supply chain.

We require farms to follow the IWTO’s Five Freedoms and only use 100% mulesing-free wool. Farms are regularly inspected.
No. Our wool is selected and processed for durability, helping garments maintain their shape and performance over time.
You may experience a loosening of the wool when it's wet or after you've sweated, but it will return to its original shape once it's dried.
Merino wool’s fine fibers and natural crimp create insulation, flexibility, and breathability—making it perfect for next-to-skin wear.
About our materials—LITE
Woolpower LITE works well in milder temperatures or during higher-intensity activities.
The material is often used as a first layer next to the skin, for example when hiking, running or doing other activities where you move a lot. It can also be combined with warmer garments in Ullfrotté as part of a layering system.
For more information about when to choose LITE vs. Ullfrotté, check out this easy guide.
Yes. Woolpower LITE works well as a first layer next to the skin. The material helps transport moisture away and contributes to a stable and comfortable temperature close to the body.
In colder conditions it can be combined with warmer layers in Ullfrotté Original, such as 200, 400 or 600.
Yes. Woolpower LITE works well for high-intensity activities where your body produces more heat.
Because the material sits close to the skin and allows heat to dissipate more easily, it helps maintain a comfortable temperature during movement. At the same time, the wool helps transport moisture away from the skin.
In colder conditions, LITE layers can be combined with warmer layers in Ullfrotté Original, such as 200, 400 or 600, as part of a layering system.
The knitting determines how much air the material traps and how close the fabric sits to the skin.
Ullfrotté Original has terry loops that trap large amounts of air and create an insulating layer. LITE is rib-knitted and sits closer to the body, creating more contact points that allow body heat to dissipate. That is why the material feels cooler.
The difference comes from how the materials are knitted. Ullfrotté Original has terry loops on the inside that trap large amounts of air and create an insulating layer between the body and the fabric.
Woolpower LITE is knitted in a 1:1 rib and sits closer to the skin. This creates more contact points with the body, allowing heat to dissipate more quickly. That is why LITE feels cooler than Ullfrotté, even though both materials contain merino wool.
About our materials—Ullfrotté
Unlike LITE items, Ullfrotté is a knitted fabric with terry loops on the inside. This construction creates a lofty material that traps a large amount of air, providing effective insulation. The construction of LITE garments is different, which is why we recommend them as base layers and Ullfrotté products (generally) as midlayers.
Yes, they sure can.
The material combines insulation and moisture transport. The terry loops create a lofty fabric that traps body heat, while the wool fibers help move moisture away from the skin. This contributes to a stable and comfortable temperature close to the body.

The numbers indicate the fabric weight in grams per square meter. The higher the number, the thicker the material.
Thinner materials, such as 200, are often worn closest to the skin or during higher activity levels. Thicker materials, such as 400, 600, or 800, are used as insulating layers or in colder conditions with lower activity levels.
Ullfrotté feels warm even when it’s damp thanks to both its construction and the unique properties of wool. The fabric traps a large amount of air, which continues to provide insulation even when moisture is present.
Wool can also absorb moisture without feeling wet against the skin. When the wool fibers absorb moisture, so-called heat of absorption is released. This means that a small amount of heat is generated within the material as the moisture binds to the fibers.
At the same time, moisture is transported away from the skin, while the insulating air layer remains and helps retain body heat.
The result is that the garment can still feel warm and comfortable even in damp conditions.
Pilling is completely natural and due to the construction of the fabric. The pilling does not affect the function of the garment.
To provide the best possible insulation, we preserve the natural crimp of the wool. The yarn is not spun too tightly, and the fabric is knitted relatively loosely with terry loops on the inside. This construction traps a large amount of air, helping to retain body heat.
The result is a warm, elastic, and comfortable material. The fact that the fabric may pill over time is therefore a natural consequence of how it is made.
Socks
Yes, wool socks are great in any season.
Our everyday favorites include:
Socks Liner Classic → Perfect for everyday wear and the office all year round, but also suitable for light activity or as a base layer.
Socks Classic 200 → Great for cooler spring and autumn days. Features a ribbed shaft and insulating terry knit in the foot, while still being thin enough for most shoes.
Socks Classic Logo 400 → One of our most popular socks. Ideal for cold autumn and winter days. Ribbed shaft and insulating wool terry knit 400 for extra warmth.
Socks Classic 400 → A warm and durable everyday sock for chilly days. Made from insulating terry knit 400 that keeps your feet dry and warm, even during low activity.
No, wool naturally regulates temperature and wicks away moisture, keeping your feet dry and comfortable in all conditions.
Wool wicks away moisture, insulates effectively, and keeps you warm even when damp, helping your body stay dry and comfortable in a way cotton or synthetics cannot.
Since 1972, Woolpower has been knitting socks in Sweden for all types of weather and activities. With experience in cold conditions and functionality, we know what it takes to keep your feet warm and dry.
Our range spans from thin liner socks to thick terry knit socks in various insulation levels. All are made in Sweden with a focus on quality, durability, and the natural ability of wool to retain heat and transfer moisture.
The numbers indicate the thickness and level of insulation of the garment. The higher the number, the thicker and warmer the sock.

Caring for your garments
Woolpower garments can be washed at 140 degrees Fahrenheit, while many other wool garments are recommended to be washed at lower temperatures.
Always use a detergent designed for wool and avoid fabric softener, as it can affect the natural properties of wool and turn the garments inside out and wash with like colors. This helps preserve their lifespan.
In terms of drying, yes you can dry your gear on a lower heat. Just don't over dry them.
Avoid washing every time gear is used
Avoid washing your gear every time you use it. That may seem crazy because you're likely sweating in your base and mid-layers, BUT, Woolpower products are designed to be used over and over again before washing without smelling or losing shape. Rather than washing after every use, air out garments and consider washing them after five or more uses.
Yes, wool has a natural self-cleaning effect. The fiber contains the protein keratin, which helps break down odor-causing bacteria from the skin and prevents new bacteria from forming.
The structure of the wool fiber also contributes to this effect. Dirt and odor particles tend to stay on the surface of the fiber and can often be removed simply by airing the garment. At the same time, wool can absorb moisture without feeling wet, which helps the garment stay fresh for longer.
Inside the fiber are cells that absorb different amounts of moisture. When they swell, they move slightly against each other, creating a small amount of friction. This movement contributes to wool’s mechanical self-cleaning effect.
Because of this, wool garments can often be worn several times between washes. In many cases, airing the garment is enough.
If you need to wash wool garments by hand, shampoo can work well because it has a suitable pH level for wool.
Use lukewarm water and gently move the garment so the water penetrates the fabric. Carefully press out the water without wringing the garment. Lay it flat on a towel (or rock) to dry.
Wool is a natural material and the fiber contains protein, which can attract pests such as clothes moths or carpet beetles.
When you are not using your wool base layer, store it in a light and well-ventilated place. Avoid leaving wool garments in dark and enclosed spaces for long periods.
Make sure the garment is clean before storing it for a longer time.
Store Wool Garments Folded
Store wool garments folded rather than hanging for long periods, as knitted fabrics can stretch if left hanging. Keeping garments dry and allowing air circulation helps reduce the risk of pests.
